Types of Rivets

Plastic rivets or plastic pop rivets, nylon rivets, are made of plastic materials like their conventional counterparts, are also used in a variety of applications including electronics, computers, furniture, toys, and vehicles. The chief advantage of using these rivet is that they can hold materials together securely, making them difficult to separate these

nylon rivets are incredibly sturdy, providing more tensile strength than aluminum. Because they aren’t metal, plastic pop rivets also offer corrosion resistance—important in applications in which moisture is a concern

Blind Rivets

Blind rivets, a.k.a. break stem rivets, are tubular fasteners with a mandrel through the center. Blind rivets are inserted into drilled holes in the parts to be joined, and a special tool is used to draw the mandrel through the body of the rivet.

Blind rivets, also commonly referred to as POP Rivets, are mainly used in applications where there is no access to the rear (blind side) of the joint. Rivets have a two-piece construction; one is called the rivet body, shell, or hat and another is called the stem or mandrel.

Tubular Rivet/Hollow Rivets

Semi-tubular rivets (also known as tubular rivets hollow end rivets or brake lining rivets) are essentially the same as solid rivets, but with a shallow hole at the tip, opposite the head. This hole causes the tubular portion of the rivet (around the hole) to roll outward when force is applied.

The bottom half of the body is hollow and because it is the only part of the rivet that expands during installation, they are often used as pivot points. Use these rivets to fasten soft materials such as leather, fabric, and plastic, installation requires access to both sides of the materials

Solid rivets are among the simplest, most reliable, and oldest types of fasteners. These simple devices consist of a solid shaft with a head on one end; once installed, the headless end of a solid rivet is deformed with a hammer or rivet gun to hold it in place.

Solid rivets are used in applications where reliability and safety count. A typical application for solid rivets can be found within the structural parts of aircraft. Hundreds of thousands of solid rivets are used to assemble the frame of a modern aircraft.

Double Cap Rivets

Double Cap rivets also called male-female rivets, are double-sided rivets.Double cap rivets are used where both sides of the rivet will be visible, or where a rivet comes in contact with other surfaces (purse and other handles, leashes, collars, harnesses, to secure multiple layers of material together and as a decorative accent on handmade projects and accessories. The Double Cap provides a finished appearance on the front and back sides of your project

Preguntas frecuentes

Rivets are ideal for supporting shear and tensile loads, as well as watertight applications. Just what is a rivet? A rivet is a mechanical fastener consisting of a smooth, cylindrical shaft ahead. Upon installation, the end of the shaft expands, creating a “shop head” and fastening objects in place.

The general types of rivets are solid, blind, tubular, and metal piercing (including split rivets)

When installed, the rivet is either drilled, placed, or punched into a hole, subsequently deforming the tail, holding the rivet in place. Rivets gun is placed on the rivet, and the tail is pulled into the body of the rivet, causing it to expand and hold the parts together.
